Am I too late to play?

Aside from letting random play on iTunes do the work, I've been listening to the Jerry Garcia Band at the Warner Music Theater 03-18-78 - a little gem of a show that I'd recommend to anyone; Bruce Hornsby, Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder at the Ruth Eckard Hall, Clearwater, 04-04-08 - I just love the Hornsby/Skaggs shows I've heard, The Way It Is blows my head off every time; and a band I came across in the Archive called Monkeys Typing - they do some Dead covers that sound very good to my ears, maybe because they don't try at all to sound like the Dead - I'd encourage you to give them a listen, check out the Dead tunes they finished this show with - I loved it to be honest.

9-17-1999 "Music from the Mountain" with Tim O'Brien, Dirk Powell, and John Herrman.
Just recently did a fresh transfer of my tapes from this night and have been digging on the "old-time" music. This tour was based on music discussed in Charles Frazier's book "Cold Mountain" and at this show Frazier comes out and reads a passage from the book. Very moving...

fresh stuff

discovered them few days ago and just cant stop listening - BLACK HELL (quartet - g, g, b, d from phoenix, az) - awesome, hard and heavy, psychedelic, spacey metal. extremely heavy, yet melodic dual lead riffs and powerful pounding of bass and drums will make ur brain explode. the best new band i have heard in this century. some really heavy shit, highly original approach

talking bout HOW THE REST WAS LOST, their 2nd album (just released)
1.lunar procession
2.storms of jupiter
3.lycanthropy
4.planet maker
5.celestial conquest
w/ the titles like that what can u expect when u crank it up? the sky falling on ur head, armageddon or fuckin what?

********** highest recommendation

Porter Wagoner: The Rubber Room collection. He's a real downer to listen to, but hey.... so is Pink Floyd, and the collective "we" like them!

Was listening to RR Earth earlier this morning, so I guess you could say I'm kind of on a down-home, Americana kick today.

Porter accentuates the negative; RR Earth accentuates the positive.

I'm listening right this second to Alison Krauss
"Let's Go Down To The River To Pray" from the O Brother Where Art Thou ST... and followed that with The Soggy Bottom Boys "Man Of Constant Sorrow" - the better, simpler guitars only version.

And, that's it...
I have nothing better on my iTunes now on this iBook ...
it's off now...
there's nowhere left to go, nothing handy that could possibly follow those songs up (on this OS 9.1, there's no youtube, no downloads, only LMA), and I'm Dead tired of the Dead for the moment.

I've played everything by the GD I need to hear for now, including the original mix of
Aoxomoxoa a while ago -
"Mountains Of The Moon" with it's sweet, subtle background chorus of female angelic voices you don't hear on the remix.

I even played "What's Become Of The Baby" - the original mix is actually listenable, once a year or so...

it has sound fx similar to the cartoon in The Grateful Dead Movie... it's far more listenable than the Aoxo remix!

And when a person listens to THAT track, it's over for the time being, Dead-wise...
I've reached the apex, there's nonthing left to play...

Good Night All!

In a buildin' tall with a stone wall around there's a rubber room
When a man sees things and hears sounds that's not there
He's headed for the rubber room
Illusions in a twisted mind to save from self-destruction hmm it's the rubber room
Where a man can run into the wall till his strenght makes him fall and lie still
And wait for help in the rubber room
From his blurry vision of doom a psycho in the rubber room
The man in the room right next to mine screams a woman's name hits the wall in vain
He's in the rubber room
I hear footsteps poundin' on the floor God I hope they don't stop at my door
Hmm I'm in the rubber room
Now they've come to get me but they find
I'm a screamin' pretty words tryin' to make 'em rhyme
I'm n the rubber room hmm a psycho I'm in the rubber room hmm
